North Korean weightlifting star Song Guk-hyang claimed the gold medal in the women's 69kg division at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, putting on a phenomenal performance by breaking three world records.
Competing today (September 27) at the Fukiage Hall in Nagoya, Japan, Song lifted 121kg in the snatch, 152kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 273kg to secure the top of the podium.
Song showcased overwhelming dominance by setting new world records across the snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight categories.
After easily clearing 110kg in her first attempt and 115kg in her second attempt in the snatch, Song succeeded at 121kg in her third attempt to set a new world record.
She then successfully lifted 140kg in her first attempt of the clean and jerk, followed by 152kg in her second attempt, simultaneously setting new world records in both the clean and jerk and total categories (273kg).
The gap between Song and the runner-up, Chen Wen-huei of Chinese Taipei (total 232kg), reached a massive 41kg.
Ingrid Gruedeso of Bahrain took third place with a total of 229kg.
With Song's victory, the North Korean delegation captured its sixth gold medal of the games.
Following Ri Won-ju's victory in the men's 70kg division the previous day, North Korean weightlifting continued its dominant streak, securing gold medals alongside a succession of world records for the second consecutive day.
No South Korean athletes competed in this weight class.
