Leading South Korean female tennis players Ku Yeon-woo (ranked 185th, CJ CheilJedang) and Baek Da-yeon (ranked 272th, NH Nonghyup Bank) made a smooth start by successfully passing the first round in the women's singles on the opening day of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Ku defeated Anastasiya Tursunova of Tajikistan 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) in just 41 minutes in the first round of the women's singles held at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya, Japan, today (September 27).
Ku will face Moyuka Uchijima of Japan (ranked 105th) in the second round.
Baek also defeated Sivali Gurung of Nepal 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) in 42 minutes.
She will clash with Himeno Sakatsume of Japan (ranked 119th).
This marks the second Asian Games appearance for both players.
At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Ku reached the women's doubles quarterfinals with Park So-hyun, while Baek won a women's doubles bronze medal with Jeong Bo-young.
In this tournament, Ku is aiming for her first career Asian Games medal, while Baek is targeting medals in two consecutive Games.
