A fire broke out at an energy facility in Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, at around 8:55 a.m. today (September 27).
Fire authorities issued a Level 1 response about 15 minutes after receiving the report and began firefighting operations.
So far, no casualties have been reported, with only six factory workers having safely evacuated on their own.
At around 9:15 a.m. that day, the city of Dangjin sent an emergency disaster text message notifying residents of the fire, urging nearby residents to evacuate to a safe place and avoid approaching the accident site.
At 10:30 a.m., the city sent an additional disaster text message to visitors at a nearby golf course, stating, "Please evacuate to a safe place immediately and take precautions against smoke inhalation."
Fire authorities estimate that the fire, which started in the fuel building of the plant, spread to the boiler building.
The major flames in the fuel building were brought under control at around 11:40 a.m., but firefighting operations are still underway for the boiler building.
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire after completing the containment operations.
