It has been revealed that two ammunition loss incidents occurred at the Naju Police Station in Jeollanam-do over the past four years, resulting in the loss of 50 blank rounds and one live bullet.
According to data on the status of lost firearms and ammunition obtained from the Korean National Police Agency by the office of Representative Park Sang-woong of the People Power Party, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, two ammunition loss incidents took place at the Naju Police Station in 2022 and in July of this year.
On July 16, during an ammunition inventory check, it was confirmed that a box containing 50 blank rounds was missing.
It was also found that an on-duty police officer lost a live bullet on October 11, 2022.
The live bullet and blank rounds lost in the two incidents have not been recovered to date, and no circumstances indicating external leakage have been confirmed.
Holding the individuals in charge at the time accountable for lax management, the police issued minor disciplinary actions against them and are investigating the exact circumstances of the losses.
From 2017 to the present, no other police stations in the Gwangju and Jeollanam-do region have reported cases of lost or unauthorized removal of firearms and ammunition.
