The human rights organization Amnesty International has denounced human rights violations by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Donald Trump administration and called for its complete abolition.
According to AFP, Amnesty International released a report on the 24th local time detailing widespread human rights violations committed by ICE during large-scale immigration crackdowns.
The report was compiled based on more than 150 testimonies collected from March to June across four cities where ICE focused its operations.
Through this, Amnesty International pointed out that the Trump administration "is implementing a massive detention and deportation system fueled by racism, xenophobia, and false rhetoric, with the goal of detaining and deporting as many immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees as possible."
Nadia Daar, executive director of Amnesty International USA, noted in the report, "Masked and armed federal agents attacking people on the streets with impunity does not make communities safer; it puts everyone at risk."
She further emphasized, "ICE is fundamentally broken and beyond repair. For the U.S. government to have an immigration enforcement system that complies with international human rights law and standards, ICE must be abolished and started over from scratch."
Amnesty International's report comes about a week after the shooting of Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a Venezuelan immigrant, by an ICE agent in Austin, Texas, on the 20th, which left him in critical condition.
