A fire has broken out at a telecommunications facility in Poland that supports Starlink satellite internet services for Ukraine.
Authorities are investigating the incident with the possibility of arson in mind.
According to Polish media outlet TVP, a fire occurred on the afternoon of the 23rd (local time) at a base station in Wola Krzysztoporska, located about 40 kilometers south of Warsaw, damaging power distribution facilities and a generator.
Fire authorities stated that while the possibility of an electrical cause cannot be completely ruled out, initial investigation results point to arson.
The base station, operated by Polish state-owned telecommunications company Exatel, also utilizes SpaceX's Starlink network.
Since the outbreak of the war in 2022, Poland has been supporting Ukraine's internet connectivity by purchasing Starlink terminals and covering their operational costs when Ukrainian communication networks were cut off.
Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland's Minister of Digital Affairs, characterized the fire as sabotage, claiming that "various circumstances suggest that this aligns with Russia's new attack strategy."
