South Korea's leading male breaststroker Cho Sung-jae (Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps) has captured a thrilling bronze medal in the men's 200m breaststroke at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by a margin of just 0.01 seconds.
Cho touched the pad in third place with a time of 2:08.76 in the swimming men's 200m breaststroke final held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Japan on the 24th.
It was a breathtaking race where he edged out fourth-place Mak Sai Ting (Hong Kong, 2:08.77) by a mere 0.01 seconds.
The silver medal went to Denis Petrashov (Kyrgyzstan), who recorded 2:08.67.
Starting from lane 6 after finishing fourth in the preliminaries, Cho dramatically secured a spot on the podium after a fierce battle for second place with Petrashov and Mak Sai Ting in the final 50-meter stretch.
Japan's Ohashi Shin claimed the gold medal with a time of 2:04.83 following an overwhelming race.
Ohashi shaved 0.65 seconds off the previous world and Asian record (2:05.48) set by China's Qin Haiyang at the 2023 Fukuoka World Championships, becoming the first person to break a world record across all swimming events at this tournament.
