A fire broke out at a cosmetics manufacturing plant in Incheon, prompting the fire authorities to issue an alert and bring the major blaze under control in about three hours.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters today (September 24), the fire broke out at around 9:45 PM yesterday at the cosmetics manufacturing plant in Oryu-dong, Geomdan-gu.
No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities found that the fire spread to neighboring buildings.
Twenty-nine minutes after the fire started, the fire authorities issued a Response Stage 1 alert, which mobilizes personnel from the entire regional fire station.
Authorities deployed 96 personnel, including firefighters, along with 52 pieces of equipment such as pumper trucks, bringing the major blaze under control 3 hours and 4 minutes later at around 12:49 AM today.
Thick smoke and a burning smell were reportedly carried as far as southwestern areas of Seoul, including Gwanak-gu and Gangseo-gu.
At around 12:25 AM today, the Seoul Metropolitan Government sent an emergency text message stating, "Due to this fire, a burning smell and smoke are flowing into the southwestern area of Seoul. Nearby residents are advised to close windows and pay attention to safety."
Earlier, Geomdan-gu also sent emergency text messages to residents after the fire broke out to urge safety precautions.
Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage once the cleanup of remaining flames is completed.
A fire official said, "Response Stage 1 is currently being maintained," adding, "It took a long time to control the fire because the affected area is wide and obstacles such as power lines made it difficult to utilize ladder trucks."
