(G)I-DLE member Soyeon fulfilled her previous "vegetable mukbang" pledge after topping the Melon TOP 100 chart with "I'm Quitting My Job (Narr. Kian84)", the title track of her first full-length album.
On September 22, Soyeon explained during a live broadcast on (G)I-DLE's official YouTube channel, "I was so nervous hosting my very first radio DJ gig that I just blurted things out. Back then, I honestly didn't think we would hit No. 1, so I threw it out casually, but right after saying it, I had this uneasy gut feeling that we might actually hit No. 1." She shared why she had made the promise to do a "vegetable buffet mukbang" as a music chart No. 1 pledge.
Soyeon, who is widely known for disliking vegetables, has previously made her firm preferences clear, even surprise-releasing the "I Hate Vegetables Song" last August.
Soyeon stated, "I naturally had to keep my No. 1 pledge. I hate breaking promises more than anything in the world." She then took on a full-course vegetable dish menu, starting with appetizers including broccoli with red pepper paste, carrot-apple and coconut juice, chilled cucumber soup, fresh spring rolls, and witch's soup, followed by the main dish of Moroccan home-style "tagine" (Lok), and desserts such as carrot cake, freeze-dried vegetable chips, and green beans.
Soyeon particularly struggled in front of the chilled cucumber soup. She brought laughter by saying, "When I was young, I asked to eat water naengmyeon, so my mom made me chilled cucumber soup instead," looking in pain and immediately reaching for water after taking a single bite of the soup.
Toward the end of the broadcast, she also shared her reflections on the album production process. Soyeon explained, "I had a lot of worries, thinking, 'Am I someone who can do well on my own?' I was confident in producing for others, but producing for myself felt daunting. I tried various approaches, such as intentionally seeking out composers with completely different styles, working again with people I've collaborated with for a long time, and trying to create on my own."
Meanwhile, "I'm Quitting My Job (Narr. Kian84)" is the title track of Soyeon's first full-length album "A Killer Life" released on September 7, and has steadily received love since its release as an "office worker's anthem" with its approachable yet warm melody and honest lyrics.
