An explosion was heard near Qeshm Island in Iran, a strategic choke point in the Strait of Hormuz, in the early hours of the 23rd local time, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.
IRNA reported that the explosion is believed to have originated from the sea, and no damage has been reported on Qeshm Island.
Qeshm Island is located in the northern waters of the Strait of Hormuz and serves as a key stronghold for Iran in controlling the strait.
Around the same time, delegations from the United States and Iran held talks at the UN Headquarters in New York, where the UN General Assembly was taking place.
U.S. President Donald Trump said that the meeting with Iran went "very well."
