President Lee Jae-myung stated in his keynote address at the United Nations General Assembly a short while ago that South Korea will respect North Korea on the international stage and cooperate where cooperation is possible. He also proposed that countries with the capability and will should first form a coalition to overcome supply chain crises, including issues concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

Delivering his keynote address at the UN General Assembly for the second time since taking office, following last year, President Lee Jae-myung declared a blueprint outlining the direction for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
Stating that he will pursue growth through cooperation based on mutual respect for each other's systems and recognition of differences between the two Koreas, he said:
[President Lee Jae-myung: "We will respect the North on the international stage as well and pursue cooperation where cooperation can be achieved."]
This is interpreted as an effort to bring North Korea to the dialogue table by engaging it as a partner for cooperation in areas that require an international response, such as healthcare, disaster management, and the climate crisis.
President Lee proposed a "solidarity of constructive contributor nations" to address energy supply chain challenges highlighted by developments such as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
[President Lee Jae-myung: "Countries equipped with the capability and will to provide global public goods should join hands first and broaden the scope of cooperation."]
Suggesting a realistic path by stating that the world cannot simply wait until all nations agree on a single solution, the proposal is drawing keen attention as it comes amid US pressure regarding troop deployment to Hormuz.
Along with this supply chain solidarity, President Lee introduced the vision of a "K-Initiative," centered on a Global AI Basic Society and a Green Grand Transition.
He also stressed that, keeping pace with changing times, the United Nations must not stop at declarations inside conference halls, but must transform itself into "a UN that delivers results."
[President Lee Jae-myung: "Agreements reached in conference halls must lead to changes on the ground, so that citizens around the world can feel the achievements in their everyday lives."]
President Lee is expected to meet with President Trump following the UN General Assembly, drawing attention to whether they will also discuss pending bilateral issues, including North Korea-US dialogue and South Korean investment in the United States.
