Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a surprise meeting with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy for the Middle East, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported on the 22nd (local time).
Citing sources, IRIB reported that Araghchi abruptly accepted Witkoff's request for a meeting, which aimed to convey Iran's conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The source stated, "Through the behind-the-scenes meeting, Iran's firm stance was delivered directly to the U.S. representative without filter."
According to IRIB, the key demands presented by Iran to the U.S. side as preconditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz include ▲ the immediate lifting of the maritime blockade, ▲ the immediate return and payment of all frozen Iranian assets, and ▲ the end of the war across all fronts intertwined with the Axis of Resistance.
