South Korean soft tennis women's singles player Hwang Jeong-mi (19, NH Nonghyup Bank) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where she will face North Korea's Ri Jin-mi (24).
Playing at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya, Japan, on September 22, Hwang secured consecutive 4-0 game victories in Group H of the women's singles preliminary round against Suvanh Hacknholat of Laos and Chatcha Klomkamon of Thailand.
Finishing first in her group with two wins, Hwang will compete against Group G winner Ri Jin-mi on the morning of September 23 for a spot in the semifinals.
As soft tennis does not hold a third-place playoff, Hwang will secure at least a bronze medal if she wins the quarterfinals.
Lee Su-jin (Okcheon County Office), who also advanced to the quarterfinals as the winner of Group B with two wins, will face Group A winner Rena Denma of Japan for a semifinal berth.
In the men's singles, Lee Ha-neul (Suncheon City Hall) reached the quarterfinals with two preliminary wins and will face Taiwan's Chen Po-yi.
