North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, has once again called on officials in the propaganda sector to develop ideological education in a fresher and more practical manner in step with changing times.
In particular, he instructed them to utilize advanced information technology tools to block the spread of external ideas.
General Secretary Kim said in a speech at yesterday's closing ceremony of the 3rd Workshop for Officials in the Propaganda Sector of the Workers' Party of Korea that "our party's propaganda work must change distinctly and become an undertaking of higher caliber, greater depth, and greater effectiveness than in the past," the Korean Central News Agency reported.
He pointed out, "Even though today's era is changing and developing radically and in multifaceted ways, persisting in relying on past content and materials, or repeating stereotyped logic and claims in an old-fashioned manner, cannot but be truly anachronistic backwardness."
He emphasized, "As our ideals and goals in all areas of social life, including the economy, national defense, and culture, are rising and being realized through rapid implementation, and major changes are taking place in our people's living environment, the contents of our party's ideological work should naturally be freshly organized and enriched accordingly."
General Secretary Kim said, "There is no question that ideological education must not only make sense but also be firmly rooted in reality," adding, "Propaganda officials should always delve into the inner thoughts and emotions of the people, place themselves in their shoes, and ensure that even drafting a single lecture outline or delivering an explanation resonates and leads to real changes in perception."
He also urged, "Even for ideological education on the same topic, we must focus our contemplation and research on finding and grasping formats and means that can attract people to achieve greater effects," adding, "We must also put effort into utilizing modern information tools and technical means to increase the speed and effectiveness of propaganda and educational work, and to thoroughly crush the spread of reactionary ideology and culture."
The workshop for propaganda sector officials, which opened on September 18, concluded its four-day schedule with the closing ceremony on this day.
This event marks the third of its kind since it was first held in 2022.
Unlike the previous two events, Kim attended and delivered speeches at both the opening and closing ceremonies this time.
An official from the Ministry of Unification assessed that General Secretary Kim Jong Un "emphasized strengthening and innovating ideological work while putting forward an ideology-first principle in two speeches," adding, "This appears to be a tone encouraging ideological solidarity by emphasizing the importance of ideological work in the process of pursuing national policies, such as the tasks presented at the 9th Party Congress."
The official added, "While the rejection of reactionary ideology and culture as well as non-socialist practices has been mentioned multiple times (in the past), the instruction to use modern technical means to block their spread appears to be a new element."
