SK Hynix has confirmed that several new employees were dismissed for violating training regulations during their onboarding period.
According to the industry, four newly hired employees in technical and administrative positions participating in the orientation program were dismissed for drinking and other violations of training rules during the session.
Two employees from a group affiliate who were also involved in the incident reportedly received pay cuts.
SK Hynix reportedly finalized the disciplinary action after confirming the rule violations and going through an explanation process with the individuals involved, though it maintains its stance that it cannot confirm personal personnel information.
This incident is causing significant repercussions given that SK Hynix is a company of intense interest among young job seekers, having ranked first in college student employment preference surveys for two consecutive years.
This is because the incident occurred immediately after they broke through high recruitment competition rates, driven by high starting salaries and substantial performance-based incentives.
Once the news spread, online reactions poured in saying, "They drank the most expensive drink in the world" and "They blew hundreds of millions of won in a momentary lapse of judgment," while critics also pointed out that this should serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of organizational rules and professional ethics.
