A husband who visited and killed his wife while undergoing divorce proceedings in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, has been indicted while in custody.
The Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office announced today (the 22nd) that it has indicted a public official in his 30s, identified as A, under custody on charges including retaliatory murder and child abuse.
A is suspected of stabbing and killing his wife, B, with a weapon at a multi-family housing unit in Neungpyeong-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, at around 7:10 AM on the 1st.
It was confirmed that A wielded the weapon against B at the scene while their 5-year-old daughter was present.
At the time of the incident, A had been issued a restraining order and other directives regarding B by the court.
Investigations revealed that A, a current public servant, committed the crime believing that B's reports of domestic violence during their divorce proceedings would put him at a disadvantage regarding property division and child custody.
Meanwhile, as it was reported that A found B's temporary shelter through the divorce petition, vulnerabilities in victim protection were also exposed.
It was confirmed that B had appealed for help regarding domestic violence multiple times from March of last year until recently, and had moved her residence from Suwon to Gwangju to proceed with the divorce process.
