A driver in their 20s who parked their car in the middle of a road after taking drugs again right as they left a police station parking lot following a negative preliminary drug test result has been sentenced to prison.
Ulsan District Court announced today (September 22) that it sentenced A, who was indicted on charges including the violation of the Act on the Control of Narcotics, to three years in prison and ordered the completion of 40 hours of drug addiction rehabilitation education.
Back in February, A was caught by police responding to a report about a car parked and motionless in downtown Ulsan, but was sent home after testing negative for both alcohol and a preliminary urine drug screen.
However, just eight minutes later, a report was filed again stating that a car was blocking the road and refusing to move. Police dispatched to the scene knocked on the driver's side window and shouted loudly, but A stared blankly with glazed eyes without answering.
Eventually, police reached through a slightly lowered crack in the driver's window, unlocked the door, and pulled A out.
Inside the vehicle at the time, an e-cigarette device attached to synthetic cannabis and a large quantity of liquid cartridges were additionally discovered. When questioned, A admitted, "I inhaled synthetic cannabis in the car."
Investigations revealed that upon testing negative during the initial examination, A drove out of the police station parking lot and immediately inhaled synthetic cannabis again.
The court stated the sentencing rationale, saying, "The defendant committed the crime while on probation and under protective supervision for the same type of offense, making them highly culpable, and is evading responsibility with excuses."
