On September 17, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier and a China-flagged fishing boat collided near the Singapore Strait.
Crew members aboard the Chinese fishing boat urgently sounded their horn and shouted for the other vessel to stop, but the bulk carrier failed to reduce its speed and struck the fishing boat.
Immediately following the impact, the fishing boat listed heavily, and the crew struggled to maintain their balance while holding onto the structure of the vessel.
According to an analysis of the Automatic Identification System (AIS), the two ships were navigating the same route when the bulk carrier approached from behind at a higher speed, causing the distance between them to close.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact scale of the damage and the cause of the accident.
