An accident suspected to be a landmine explosion occurred today (September 21) during a search operation in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at a frontline unit of the Army's 25th Infantry Division, which oversees the western front.
A total of three soldiers who took part in the search operation were injured and transported to a hospital, including two who sustained serious injuries.
Currently (Hyunjae), circumstances suggest that the accident was likely caused by a landmine explosion.
However, it has reportedly not been confirmed whether the exploded landmine was laid by North Korean troops or South Korean forces.
Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that they had identified topographical changes in some areas south of the DMZ and were consulting with the United Nations Command regarding the possibility that North Korean troops had laid mines.
