Moving forward, anyone will be able to apply for advance child support regardless of their income.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced that it will abolish the income criteria for the advance child support system starting on the 29th of next month.
The advance child support system is a program in which the state first provides up to 200,000 won per month in child support to single-parent families who have not received child support from their former spouses, and later recovers the advance payment from the non-custodial parent who owes the child support debt.
Previously, only single-parent households with a median income of 150% or less were eligible to apply, but the Ministry of Gender Equality expects that abolishing the income criteria will improve accessibility to the system.
