"The Intern," starring actors Choi Minsik and Han So-hee, put an end to the six-week consecutive weekend box office streak of "The Odyssey."
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network on the 21st, "The Intern" drew 275,182 moviegoers from the 18th to the 20th. Its cumulative audience reached 403,902. It has been about 50 days since "HOPE" that a Korean film claimed the No. 1 spot at the box office.
Released on the 16th, "The Intern" debuted at No. 1 at the box office and maintained its momentum through the weekend. However, with the weekend audience stopping in the 200,000 range, its future box office prospects are not necessarily optimistic. This is because "The Assassin(s)," "Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub," and "Possible Love" are scheduled to open simultaneously on the 23rd.
Taking the No. 2 spot at the box office was "The Odyssey," which brought in 256,792 viewers during the same period. Its cumulative audience stands at 11,217,640. Entering its seventh week in release, it handed over the top spot to "The Intern," but its lasting momentum remains formidable. If it maintains its staying power this week as new releases targeting the Chuseok holiday open consecutively, surpassing 12 million in final admissions appears possible.
