The National Security Office of Cheong Wa Dae convened an emergency security situation assessment meeting regarding North Korea's launch of a ballistic missile from the Wonsan area into the East Sea.
During the meeting, attended by relevant agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the National Security Office today (September 20) checked South Korea's response posture, analyzed and evaluated the impact of the launch on national security, and reviewed necessary measures.
The ballistic missile launch by North Korea comes eight days after its previous launch on September 12.
Regarding the launch, the government stated, "North Korea's ballistic missile launch is a grave act that violates United Nations Security Council resolutions," and urged an immediate halt.
Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea this afternoon, adding that it is analyzing specifications such as its flight range.
