North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea on Sunday afternoon (September 20), South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.
The JCS is currently analyzing the projectile's specifications, flight range, and other parameters.
If confirmed to be a ballistic missile, it would be North Korea's first launch in eight days.
Earlier, North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles on September 12, a day after the conclusion of "Freedom Edge," a regular trilateral military exercise held by South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
Two days later, on September 14, North Korea announced through state media that it had conducted a firepower strike drill involving a "mixed firing" of four types of weapons: cruise and ballistic missiles, multiple rocket launchers, and drones.
