Figure Skater Ko Na-yeon Finishes 10th in Women's Singles at Junior Grand Prix 4th Stop Due to Jump Troubles

Figure skater Ko Na-yeon has failed to win a medal at the International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix 4th Leg amid jump troubles.

Competing in the women's singles free skating held at the Umitkoy Ice Rink in Ankara, Turkey, today (September 19), Ko received 43.35 points in technical elements (TES) and 47.96 points in program components (PCS), with a 2-point deduction, for a total of 89.31 points after falling twice on her jumps.

Having raised medal expectations by placing second overall in the short program with 70.21 points, Ko received a disappointing score in the free skating, finishing in 10th place overall with a total score of 159.52 points.

Japan's Mei Okada won the championship with a total score of 206.38 points, followed by Jin Shuxian of China (194.50 points) and Stefania Gladyki of France (179.64 points).

Okada, who finished as runner-up at the 2nd stop, earned 28 ranking points with this victory, securing her advance to the Grand Prix Final.

Ko started smoothly by cleanly executing her first jump element, a triple lutz-triple toe loop combination (10.10 points), receiving 1.77 points in grade of execution (GOE), but subsequently fell consecutively on her triple loop and triple lutz.

After earning a level 4 for her flying camel spin, Ko struggled further as she received edge-call (wrong edge) and under-rotation judgments on her ensuing triple flip-double axel-double axel sequence jump.

Ko missed the timing for her next planned triple flip and failed to attempt it, resulting in a zero score. She then attempted a triple flip immediately after, but failed to rack up points due to an attention call (edge use caution) combined with an under-rotation.

To make matters worse, Ko attempted a triple salchow as a solo jump, but it exceeded the maximum allowed number of jump passes (6) and was treated as an invalid element, resulting in another zero score.
