First Lady Kim Hye-kyung, wife of President Lee Jae-myung, said today (September 18), "Regardless of the severity of a disability or where one lives, everyone should be able to receive treatment when needed."
This afternoon (September 18), First Lady Kim attended the ceremony celebrating the seventh anniversary of the opening of the National Dental Care Center for Persons with Special Needs at Seoul National University Dental Hospital.
At the event held under the theme "Healthy Smiles for Persons with Disabilities, Flying as Butterflies of Hope," Kim said, "From the perspective of people with disabilities and their families, visiting the dentist is not an easy process," adding, "I hope the National Dental Care Center for Persons with Special Needs continues to serve as a strong pillar of support for persons with disabilities and their families."
During her congratulatory remarks, Kim grew teary-eyed as she said, "I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it must be for our medical staff, our mothers and fathers, and the patients," adding, "I sincerely root for all the parents."
Blue House Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong explained the purpose of the visit, stating that the event was arranged "to share the treatment experiences of patients with disabilities and their guardians, and to encourage the medical staff and employees working hard on the front lines of dental care for persons with disabilities."
