If the U.S. Democratic Party wins the majority in the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections, it is expected to launch investigations into corruption allegations surrounding President Donald Trump's family.
According to the Financial Times (FT) on the 17th (local time), Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking Democratic member of the House Oversight Committee, stated in an interview that allegations of corruption involving the Trump family would be a primary target for investigation.
Garcia is expected to take over as chairman of the Oversight Committee if the Democrats secure a majority in the House.
The U.S. House Oversight Committee is a standing committee with broad authority to oversee and investigate the federal government.
In particular, Garcia stated that gathering evidence that could lead to President Trump's impeachment is one of the investigation's goals.
Stating his belief that President Trump has engaged in conduct warranting impeachment, he explained, "It is our job to build the case and present the evidence."

Democrats are focusing on suspicions that the Trump family improperly used the president's position to secure economic gains.
According to the FT, the Trump family has earned at least $1 billion (approx. 1.4 trillion won) through various cryptocurrency ventures.
Garcia also signaled intensive probes into business dealings involving President Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
Targets for investigation include how certain companies invested in by Trump Jr. secured multi-million dollar contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense, and the circumstances surrounding a Russian businessman spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Trump Jr.'s wedding celebration.
In addition, son-in-law Jared Kushner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are expected to be subjects of investigation.
Garcia expressed his intention to probe Musk's activities when he led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The White House criticized the Democrats' investigative plans, stating, "They have no agenda to improve the lives of the American people, only a plan to obstruct President Trump's common-sense policies and launch baseless attacks."
Regarding the allegations of preferential treatment for companies backed by Trump Jr., the Pentagon also rebutted, saying, "Investor or political relationships do not influence funding decisions."
Within the Democratic Party, concerns have also been raised that pursuing the impeachment of President Trump could overshadow policy agendas such as healthcare and the economy, and potentially backfire politically.
