A shark has appeared in the waterway of the North Port Waterfront Park in Dong-gu, Busan, prompting the Coast Guard to take action.
According to the Busan Coast Guard, a report was filed by a passerby at around 8:57 AM today stating that they spotted a shark in the park waterway.
The Coast Guard deployed the Central Regional Coast Guard Special Rescue Team, coastal rescue boats, and patrol vessels to the scene, while also requesting support from relevant authorities such as the fire department.
The waterfront park features a waterway connected to the sea.
Measuring between 3 and 4 meters in length, the shark is reported to have ventured close to the walking paths used by citizens.
Following the recommendations of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, the Coast Guard is currently guiding the shark toward open waters rather than capturing it.
A Coast Guard official urged, "As sharks can display aggression, citizens are advised to refrain from approaching the waterside of the waterfront park to prepare for potential risks."
The Busan Metropolitan City also issued an emergency text alert stating, "A report has been received regarding the appearance of a shark in the waterway inside the waterfront park," and advised, "Citizens taking walks in this area and nearby residents should exercise caution for their safety."
