The play "The Cherry Orchard," starring Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo and directed by Simon Stone, has successfully made its debut in New York.
Having premiered in Seoul in 2024, "The Cherry Orchard" opened on the 16th local time at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, USA, the final stop of its international tour following Hong Kong, Singapore, and Adelaide, Australia.
A total of 11 performances are scheduled through the 26th at the venue, which seats around 1,200 people. All shows have already sold out, and the opening-night performance was met with a standing ovation from local audiences.
In particular, the fact that the female lead played by Jeon Do-yeon is portrayed as having returned after living in New York, with New York mentioned several times, further heightened local audiences' interest.
Produced by the LG Arts Center, "The Cherry Orchard" is a reimagining of Anton Chekhov's classic play of the same name, adapted by director Simon Stone to reflect modern Korean society.
