It has been learned that the parents of an elementary school student who sparked controversy by assaulting her homeroom teacher have filed a complaint against the teacher and others on charges of child abuse.
On September 3, the parents of A, a fifth-grader at an elementary school in Cheongju, filed a complaint with the police against three individuals, including teacher B, the vice principal, and a fellow teacher.
The parents reportedly claimed through the complaint that the school's response was inadequate regarding the incident in which A assaulted teacher B and others.
The provincial office of education stated, "We recently received a notification of a child abuse report related to this incident from the police and administrative authorities," and added that they are currently looking into the details, including the intent of the complaint.
Previously, at around 8:40 AM on September 2, student A punched and kicked teacher B in the face and head inside the classroom of her elementary school.
The incident drew widespread controversy after a video showing student A grabbing teacher B by the hair and assaulting her was made public through media reports.
It was found that student A had cursed at teacher B, complaining that the test paper she received was dirty, and was sent home. She then committed the assault the next day when teacher B instructed that the test would be retaken.
She also continued her assault while hurling profanities at the vice principal and three to four other teachers who attempted to stop the attack.
Student A has reportedly been taking medication related to bipolar disorder due to a history of habitual cursing and aggressive behavior toward multiple teachers and students, but her parents had arbitrarily stopped administering the medication at the time.
Teacher B, who suffered psychological trauma from the incident, remains on leave to this day.
