The Korea Media and Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) has ordered the deletion and access blocking of 87 videos depicting violence and assaults against socially vulnerable groups, including children and teens.
The KCSC announced on September 17 that it identified 87 cases subject to corrective orders after intensively monitoring social media platforms and major online communities since July for videos showing violence against vulnerable groups, such as children and adolescents.
The commission's Telecommunications Review Subcommittee convened a meeting earlier in the day and resolved to issue corrective orders for the videos.
Most of the flagged videos captured scenes of vulnerable individuals, including minors, being assaulted, either broadcasting the abusive acts unfiltered or showing the victims' physical and psychological pain in detail.
The subcommittee determined that such violent content poses serious harm, including the potential to trigger copycat behavior among youth and foster public anxiety.
Kim Wooseok, chair of the Telecommunications Review Subcommittee, stated, "Videos that consume violence against minors and the socially vulnerable as entertainment inflict severe social harm," adding, "We will do our utmost to actively cooperate with relevant organizations, including the National Police Agency and education offices, to ensure that young people can grow up in a safe and healthy digital environment."
