It has been belatedly revealed that an active-duty firefighter in North Chungcheong Province was caught by police for drunk driving.
According to police and other sources, the Chungju Police Station has forwarded a firefighter identified as A, belonging to a fire station in the province, to prosecutors without detention on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in violation of the Road Traffic Act.
A is suspected of driving a car under the influence at around 2:00 a.m. on August 17 on a road in Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju.
He was caught by police, who were dispatched following a citizen report, after falling asleep while waiting at a traffic light.
At the time, A's blood alcohol concentration was at a level subject to license revocation.
The fire station plans to determine whether to take disciplinary action based on the investigation results.
