The movie 'The Intern', starring actors Choi Min-shik and Han So-hee, has surpassed 'Odyssey' to claim the top spot at the box office.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticket sales network data on September 17, 'The Intern' attracted 61,038 viewers nationwide on its opening day, September 16. It debuted at No. 1 at the box office, overtaking 'Odyssey', which only managed to gather 41,322 viewers that day.
As a result, 'Odyssey' handed over the No. 1 spot it had maintained for 42 days to 'The Intern'. It has been 50 days since a Korean film last claimed the No. 1 spot at the box office.
'The Intern' depicts the office life that unfolds when Ki-ho (Choi Min-shik), a 37-year-experience senior intern, joins the company of Sun-woo (Han So-hee), who has grown into a dark horse in the fashion industry. A remake of the Hollywood film of the same name, it stars Choi Min-shik and Han So-hee in the lead roles.
However, given that the audience turnout on opening day was not particularly high and it is trailing 'Odyssey' in advance ticket reservation rates, experts suggest that we will need to watch the box office numbers through this weekend to predict its future box office trajectory.
