Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, the maker of Wegovy and Ozempic, is joining forces with artificial intelligence company Anthropic to advance drug development.
Reuters and Bloomberg reported on the 16th local time that Novo Nordisk and Anthropic have signed an agreement to utilize Anthropic's AI model, Claude, for drug discovery.
Under the agreement, Anthropic's AI model Claude Science will be pilot-tested in Novo Nordisk's research and development (R&D) processes, with the goal of accelerating new drug development.
While specific details of the partnership have not been disclosed, AI has recently been gaining attention in the pharmaceutical industry as a tool that can process tasks much faster, ranging from summarizing research findings and analyzing large-scale data to designing clinical trials.
AI is also considered useful in identifying specific patients with certain conditions who are eligible to participate in clinical trials.
Although there are cases where candidate substances discovered by AI have entered human clinical trial stages, none have yet received marketing approval.
