Independent Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, who had been accused of spreading false information regarding President Lee Jae-myung's alleged involvement in Ssangbangwool's illegal remittances to North Korea, has been cleared of all charges after a year-long investigation.
According to sources, the Seoul Suseo Police Station decided not to send the case against Lawmaker Han—who faced accusations of defamation by spreading false information—to prosecutors, citing insufficient evidence.
Lawmaker Han posted on Facebook yesterday (the 16th), stating, "The police have decided not to forward the case due to a lack of charges. This is only natural." He added, "As even the Supreme Court has acknowledged, the money that went over to North Korea was indeed for President Lee Jae-myung's visit to the North."
He went on to emphasize, "The Democratic Party was so confident, claiming that the 'cost of the visit to the North' was false information and filing a complaint, but it has now been revealed that they falsely accused me instead. The trial regarding Lee Jae-myung's North Korea remittances must resume."
Previously, in September of last year, the Democratic Party's Public Communication Committee filed a complaint against Lawmaker Han, claiming that his characterization of the North Korea remittance case—which took place when President Lee Jae-myung served as Gyeonggi Province Governor—as being "payment for a visit to the North" constituted the spread of false information.
Last year, Lawmaker Han posted on Facebook, writing, "It is a fact that even the Democratic Party cannot deny: money was handed over to North Korea as payment for Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung's visit to the North."
