The number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder is increasing significantly. According to recent statistics from the United States, it is found in about 1 in every 31 children. As the importance of "early autism intervention"—the principle that earlier detection and necessary support lead to better developmental outcomes—is emphasized, various treatment facilities and centers for such early intervention are emerging in Korea as well. However, parents of children with autism are voicing that the burden falling on families is growing heavier. Experts even point out that "Korea lacks a system following a diagnosis." We examined our current reality by comparing it with the systems in the United States and Japan.
