This man in his 20s, who stole 500 million won worth of valuables from a jewelry store located inside a hypermarket and fled, was quickly caught by the police before he could get far.
The Incheon Namdong Police Station announced that it has urgently arrested a man in his 20s, designated as Mr. A, on charges of night intrusion and larceny of a building, and has applied for an arrest warrant.
Mr. A is accused of stealing 173 14K and 18K gold bracelets worth 500 million won from a jewelry store on the second floor of the Homeplus Ganseok branch in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at around 2:00 a.m. on Monday (the 14th), before fleeing in a taxi.
Upon receiving the report, the police tracked him down and urgently arrested Mr. A on a street in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, at around 2:40 p.m., just 12 hours later.
All of the stolen jewelry was recovered.
Although the hypermarket and the store each had contracts with private security companies, they failed to stop Mr. A, who broke into the market, carried out the crime, and escaped.
As a result of checking Mr. A's recent movements, police investigations revealed that he did not scout the crime scene in advance, but instead looked around the perimeter of the market before breaking inside through a window.
Given that the target location is a hypermarket that maintains a relatively high level of security, the police plan to investigate whether there was any internal accomplice.
