A fire broke out again at a mountain in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, where a fire had occurred two days ago, and was extinguished in about an hour and 30 minutes.
Fire authorities stated that a report was received from a driver at around 11:33 a.m. today reporting smoke rising from a mountain in Yamok-myeon, Hyohaeng-gu, Hwaseong-si.
Fire authorities deployed 11 pieces of equipment and 32 personnel, completely extinguishing the fire at around 1:03 p.m.
No casualties were reported.
The location of the fire was identified as the same spot where a forest fire occurred on September 14.
At that time, there were also no casualties, but the fire destroyed approximately 500 square meters of forestland.
Fire authorities believe that embers remaining from the forest fire two days ago had hidden beneath the layer of fallen leaves and reignited.
An official from Hwaseong City explained, "In the autumn season, the layer of fallen leaves is thick, so if embers remain underground, they may not be easily visible from the outside," adding, "The exact cause of the initial forest fire is currently under investigation."
