Foreign Minister Cho Hyun Meets Former Mongolian President to Discuss Human Rights Issues Including Abolition of Death Penalty

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with former Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj in Seoul today (15th) to discuss human rights issues, including the death penalty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Former President Elbegdorj visited South Korea in his capacity as a commissioner of the International Commission against the Death Penalty.

Minister Cho introduced South Korea's relevant policies and current status, noting that the country has not carried out any executions since 1997 and has consistently voted in favor of resolutions regarding the death penalty in international arenas such as the United Nations General Assembly and the Human Rights Council.

Former President Elbegdorj praised South Korea's efforts in the field of human rights and expressed hope that the country will continue to contribute to the promotion of human rights in the future.
