Prosecutors have demanded a prison sentence for the head of Saekdongwon, a residential facility for adults with severe developmental disabilities in Incheon, who was additionally indicted for embezzling facility funds.
During the first trial held today before Judge Ryu Ji-mi of the Seoul Central District Court, prosecutors asked the court to sentence the director, surnamed Kim, to two years in prison on charges including embezzlement in the course of duty.
Kim is accused of misusing or arbitrarily spending business subsidies and facility construction costs for Saekdongwon between June 2019 and October 2020.
Kim is also accused of swindling 10 million won from a foundation between October and November 2020 by deceiving them about how the sponsorship funds would be used.
Prosecutors estimated the total damage resulting from Kim's crimes at 17 million won.
As Kim's legal side admitted to most of the charges, the court closed the arguments immediately on this day.
Given the opportunity to make a final statement, Kim said, "I have nothing to say."
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 10.
Kim was arrested and indicted last March on charges of sexually assaulting residents of Saekdongwon, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the first trial on the 2nd.
Kim has appealed the ruling.
Prosecutors also investigated Kim's embezzlement charges and additionally brought him to trial last June.
