Former national tennis player Lee Hyung-taek is set to break his silence on television regarding the rumors of a midnight physical altercation with former national taekwondo player Lee Dae-hoon that surfaced two years ago.
Appearing on the MBC talk show "Radio Star," which is scheduled to air on the 16th, Lee Hyung-taek will mention an article reported anonymously two years ago and honestly confess the full story behind an incident that left him unable to offer an explanation.
The incident gained significant attention when it was reported that at around 11:00 PM on December 28, 2024, an Olympic taekwondo medalist and a former national tennis player were embroiled in an assault dispute near a parking lot in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with one of them being rushed to the hospital with a head injury.
At the time, police secured and investigated CCTV footage, determining that there were no circumstances indicating physical assault, and both sides submitted statements expressing a desire not to press charges, leading the internal investigation toward a close.
Back then, the side of person A strongly denied any assault, stating, "After having a year-end drinking gathering together, while waiting for a designated driver to help person B get home safely, they tangled and fell over. A passerby who witnessed this likely mistook it for an assault and reported it."
On the upcoming episode of "Radio Star," Lee Hyung-taek will share the situation in more detail. He explains that the incident began when Lee Dae-hoon was helping him get home after drinking, causing them to fall together. However, as time passed, the story escalated into rumors that Lee Dae-hoon had assaulted him, and to everyone's surprise, even bizarre gossip emerged claiming that an apple was placed on his head for a kick.
Lee Hyung-taek also reveals why he did not actively explain himself at the time. He felt that being in a drunken state was nothing to boast about and felt embarrassed, so he preferred not to clarify the matter. However, as unfounded stories continued to pile up, he apparently decided to set the record straight directly through a broadcast.
Regarding this, Kim Gura also mentioned on the YouTube channel "Gorealra" program "Kim Gura's Economy Research Institute," saying, "Lee Hyung-taek, who appeared on 'Radio Star' recently, talked about how someone witnessed him and Lee Dae-hoon falling down after drinking, which is how the rumors started."
