Comedian Lee Bong-won opened up about how his perspective on marriage and life changed after supporting his wife, Park Mi-sun, through her battle with cancer.
Appearing on Rolling Thunder's YouTube channel released on the 14th, Lee looked back on the moment he first heard about Park's cancer diagnosis. He recalled, "When I first received the news through a text message, my mind went completely blank and I couldn't think of anything. My only thought was that she needed to receive good treatment and get better quickly."
He continued, "Realizing that I hadn't been attentive enough in the past, I made sure to travel up from Cheonan to accompany her to the hospital every time. I hadn't been good at expressing my feelings before, but it made me realize that I should show it much more. After she received such good treatment and we recently started working on a program together, we've been living with a feeling that's different from our newlywed days. It made me realize once again how precious she is."
Lee mentioned that his attitude has changed markedly compared to the past. He shared, "I waited for hours at a famous bakery in Daejeon to buy her a birthday cake, and went on a trip with our son and daughter to set up a fireworks event for her." He added, "I used to drink alcohol about 380 times a year, including daytime drinking, but now I've cut it down to once or twice a week."
He also cleared up rumors surrounding his past business failures. Mentioning that he has been tapped on the back by citizens on the street who told him not to make his wife suffer, Lee added with his signature humor, "I guess many people thought my wife funded all of my business capital. Even though we are a married couple, we were strict about money. I borrowed it, used it, and paid it all back. If I didn't pay it back by the due date, I got a text message. Still, since we're a married couple, I told her I couldn't pay interest."
In addition, Lee candidly confessed that he didn't consult with his wife Park Mi-sun when trying or taking on new challenges, saying, "Even when I went to the Himalayas, I told her the day before, and I told her about the Jjamppong restaurant in Cheonan a week before," bringing laughter as he received playful scoldings from MCs Lee Kyung-shil and Jo Hye-ryun.
