"Chuseok Holiday Is Too Short"... Will It Be Designated as a Temporary Holiday?

You must be hearing a lot of people around you saying this year's Chuseok holiday is short.

Some voices are asking why they can't also get Monday off—the day after the holiday—so is that even possible?

While nothing has been reviewed by the government yet, designating it as a temporary holiday is not entirely out of the question.

This year's Chuseok holiday is only four days long, even when counting Sunday, the 27th.

The final day of the Chuseok holiday, the 26th, overlaps with a Saturday, but under current regulations, alternative holidays only apply when the Chuseok holiday overlaps with a Sunday.

For people to get the 28th off, the government would have to pass a resolution through a cabinet meeting to separately designate it as a temporary holiday.

Looking at past cases, there have been instances where temporary holidays were abruptly announced just ten days or so before implementation.

As a result, office workers are expressing hopeful wishes, saying things like "Four days is too short" and "I wish we could have one more day off to visit our hometowns."
