A man in his 20s who formerly worked as a manager has been arrested by police after attacking a female internet broadcast host with a weapon following a dispute.
The Gyeonggi Ansan Sangnok Police Station announced today (September 13) that it has sought an arrest warrant for a suspect identified as A on charges of special injury and preparation for murder.
A is accused of attacking female BJ B, who broadcasts through an internet platform, at a restaurant in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, at around 5:20 p.m. yesterday, inflicting a wound on her neck and pouring boiling water over her body.
A was caught red-handed and arrested at the scene by police who arrived following a witness report.
According to police, A had worked as a chat manager for B's broadcasts but recently fell out with her and quit his job, after which the two engaged in a conflict by slandering each other in the broadcast chat window.
Afterwards, B inquired about filing a defamation complaint against A with the Cyber Bureau and made this fact public through her broadcast, prompting A to harbor a grudge and plan the crime.
On the day of the incident, A took a weapon and went to B's residence to protest. When B took refuge in a nearby restaurant, A followed her and committed the act.
The exact reasons behind the discord between the two have not been revealed.
A police official explained, "Considering that the suspect prepared a weapon beforehand and went to find her, we also applied the charge of preparation for murder," adding, "As it is understood that he committed the crime believing a complaint against him was imminent, we are also reviewing the application of retaliatory crime charges."
