The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced that it will implement special management measures for household waste from the 14th to the 30th for the Chuseok holiday.
During the holiday period, local governments nationwide will operate household waste response teams and mobile cleaning units.
Additional cleaning staff and waste collection bins will be deployed to heavily frequented facilities such as traditional markets, terminals, and highway rest areas.
Crackdowns on excessively packaged holiday gift sets will also be conducted.
The ministry announced that until the 23rd, it will intensively inspect large-scale retail stores and other facilities to check compliance with packaging space ratios and packaging frequency standards, as well as the appropriateness of recycling separation labels.
The Korea Environment Corporation will hold the "National Food Waste Reduction Challenge" from the 17th to the 30th to reduce food waste during Chuseok.
Details on how to participate in the challenge will be posted on the corporation's website (www.keco.or.kr).
The ministry stated that it will ensure no disruptions in waste processing by strengthening monitoring of recycling market trends before and after the Chuseok holiday.
