Group 82Major, now in their third year since debut, is drawing keen attention as they write a potential miracle story for a group from a small-to-medium-sized agency.
On the 9th, 82Major (Nam Sung-mo, Park Seok-jun, Yoon Ye-chan, Cho Sung-il, Hwang Seong-bin, Kim Do-gyun) took their first-ever music show win since debut with "Like Fire," the title track of their second single "HEAT," on MBC M and MBC every1's "Show Champion."
Right after receiving the award, the members looked tearful and were unable to speak for a while. Leader Cho Sung-il delivered his acceptance speech, saying, "We want to thank our Great M agency representative who has always taken care of us like a mother since our debut, our agency family members, everyone who helped us, and our fandom Eties who believed in us and waited. We will continue to show you our best." Nam Sung-mo added, "We have always been the ones giving out trophies, so it is truly a great honor to receive one like this."
Having made their comeback with "HEAT" on the 1st, 82Major surpassed 150,000 copies in initial sales (Hanteo Chart) to top the daily chart and reached number one on the Bugs real-time chart for the first time since their debut. They are also gaining widespread response both domestically and internationally, landing high on global iTunes charts and China's NetEase Music chart.
This number-one win did not happen overnight. Debuting in 2023, 82Major signaled their growth by surpassing 100,000 copies in initial sales within five days of releasing their fourth mini-album "Trophy" in October of last year, and expanded their scope of activities by holding their first fan meeting in Tokyo, Japan, that December.
In April of last year, they performed consecutively on major domestic music shows with "Sign," the title track of their fifth mini-album "FEELM," cementing their reputation as a "performance-focused idol group" driven by their wrist-watch dance and staggered choreography. Industry watchers noted that the stage experience they built through European tours and solo concerts both at home and abroad significantly enhanced the completion level of their performances during this period.
Their capabilities as a "self-producing idol group" with all members participating in songwriting and composition have also been consistently highlighted. Amid this momentum, 82Major previously proved their global influence by winning the "Potential Overseas Group of the Year" award at China's Weibo International Social Advertising Festival.
Now in their third year since debut, moving from "Trophy" to "Sign" and finally to their first music show trophy, 82Major is breaking career highs with every release, turning the modifier "miracle of a small agency idol group" into reality step by step.
