The Ministry of Personnel Management (MPM) has recommended that applicants avoid wearing suits as much as possible for national civil service interviews.
In a notice regarding interview dress codes posted on the national civil service recruitment system, the MPM stated, "We recommend simple attire (neat casual wear) that does not hinder candidates from demonstrating their capabilities."
It added, "We discourage both men and women from wearing suits and ban neckties and dress shoes," noting that "if neckties or dress shoes are worn, neckties will be untied and shoe covers will be placed over dress shoes."
The ministry also attached dress code examples utilizing AI (artificial intelligence)-generated images.
Regarding the notice, the MPM explained, "We are recommending simple attire that does not interfere with the demonstration of one's abilities."
It continued, "However, most applicants still attend interviews in suits, which creates an unnatural interview atmosphere, and the noise from dress shoe footsteps disrupts the administration of the exams."
Following the notice, opinions were divided across social media and online communities.
While some expressed positive views, saying, "The cost of a suit is not insignificant," quite a few responded that "casual clothes actually cost more."
