Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok stated regarding Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won, "The more we watch, the more we judge this to be a well-made personnel choice. We will protect him."
During the supreme council meeting held at the North Chungcheong Provincial Government building today (the 11th), leader Kim emphasized, "I believe we can steadily proceed with the confirmation hearing for nominee Kim."
Regarding independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, a former prosecutor and Minister of Justice, who has launched consecutive offensives regarding nominee Kim's "suspicion of soliciting approval for new drug clinical trials" through the disclosure of transcripts, leader Kim claimed, "The essence of the current situation is that the continuous insurrection-like acts by the remaining prosecutors' faction resisting prosecution reform are being exposed through Han Dong-hoon's attention-seeking politics."
He added, "Whether illegal materials were leaked or recognized and utilized, they are all part of an illegal material connection faction," and "We will root out and punish all illegal material connections on this occasion."
He also stated, "Public judgment that lawmaker Han must be punished is growing," and "Even if I do not intentionally use the word 'out,' I believe he is already heading toward being out in the judgment of the public."
Leader Kim further pointed out, "There are some people acting as so-called commentators who make the absurd remark that hitting lawmaker Han would be making him into a YS (former President Kim Young-sam)," calling it "a massive historical distortion, an insult to President Kim Young-sam, and a far-fetched interpretation."
In addition, he criticized, "Former President Kim Young-sam stood upright against dictatorship and kept the spirit of May 18 as his identity, but people like Han Dong-hoon and Lee Jin-sook ultimately bowed their heads to dictators like Chun Doo-hwan and Yoon Suk Yeol."
On this day, leader Kim did not separately mention Gender Equality and Family Minister nominee Yong Hye-in of the Basic Income Party, who has been embroiled in controversies surrounding the dual role of proportional representation lawmaker and factionalization of the party.
Instead, he mentioned the reorganization of the criminal justice system.
Referring to the fact that the police will take charge of most general investigations starting next month through the so-called prosecution reform led by his party, leader Kim stated, "We will accelerate police reform," and "Neither the prosecution nor the police should abuse their investigative powers."
Regarding the prosecution service (Gongsocheong), leader Kim explained that he met with Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-joong during yesterday's welcome event for President Lee Jae-myung upon returning from his visit to France, stating, "The party has declared that it will review the organizational structure of the prosecution service so that the irreversibility of prosecution reform is not undermined, and I specifically requested the Minister of the Interior and Safety to look closely into this part."
He added, "We will make sure that the reorganization of the prosecution service structure does not involve misunderstandings, distortions, counteractions, or setbacks."
