Prosecutors have demanded the death penalty for a singer and YouTuber in his 40s who was put on trial for allegedly beating and neglecting his biological daughter to death.
The Changwon District Court Jinju Branch, presided over by Senior Judge Lee Seung-il of Criminal Division 1, announced today (September 11) that prosecutors demanded the death penalty—the maximum legal sentence—for the 40-year-old defendant, identified as A, during the sentencing hearing held yesterday (September 10). A was indicted and detained on charges including murder.
Prosecutors stated the reason for the sentencing demand: "The defendant, deluded into thinking that his daughter had caused him embarrassment in his social life, beat her multiple times with a wooden stick and poured boiling water on the top of her head, causing burns. Given that he denied the crime without showing remorse and exhibits a high risk of reoffending based on his past history of domestic violence against his spouse, permanent isolation from society is necessary."
The camp of A strongly denied the murder charges.
The attorney for A appealed for leniency, expressing sorrow that the victim died due to being taken to the hospital late, but maintaining that there was no intent to kill.
A was indicted on charges of beating and neglecting his teenage biological daughter, B, who was on a leave of absence from school, leaving her to die inside a vehicle at a residence in Namhae-gun in September of last year.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 8.
