The film "The Assassin(s)" boasts an unprecedented lineup of special appearances that could easily fill ten commercial films. It is comparable to a grand 24-course traditional Korean table setting. This lavish presentation was completed only after considerable deliberation by the film's director.
Director Hur Jin-ho, who held a release interview for "The Assassin(s)" in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 10th, spoke about the endless stream of special appearances, saying, "I had my concerns as well. It started with Park Jung-min, who played the role of Moon Tae-kwang. At first, I wondered, 'Would he actually do it?' but I was surprised when he said he would. He is an actor I have found impressive since 'Bleak Night' and has delivered tremendous performances in his subsequent films. Although it was a small role, he liked the scenario and readily agreed to do it."
He continued, "It is likely due to the success and aura of the production company's (Hive Media Corp) previous works. Also, it seemed that most of the actors read the script and found it engaging. I also had concerns like the ones you just mentioned (that it might disrupt immersion in the incidents). That is why I met with the actors multiple times, even for small special appearance roles. We continuously discussed and communicated about their lines and characters. When people first watch our film, their initial reaction is, 'It's fun watching the actors,' which personally satisfies me very much."
The revealed special cast of "The Assassin(s)" includes Bae Seong-woo, Um Ji-won, Park Ji-hwan, Park Hoon, Ryu Hyeyoung, Choi Yu-ri, Jang Ryul, Ryu Kyung-soo, Kim Dae-myung, Shim Eun-kyung, Park Hae-joon, Park Sung-hoon, Oh Jung-se, Shin Hyun-bin, and Jung Woo-sung. However, even more lead-level actors make appearances. While the direction is responsible for maintaining immersion in a work structured to meticulously track an uncompleted case from multiple angles, the fun is further heightened by the actors who took on lead, supporting, and special roles.
"The Assassin(s)" tells the story of tracking the suspicions and mastermind behind the First Lady assassination attempt that shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974. Directed by Hur Jin-ho, who created "One Fine Spring Day" and "The Last Princess", the film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Minho.
The film is set to open on September 23.
