Fair Trade Commission Chair Joo Byung-ki will visit the United States next week to attend an international conference.
According to the Fair Trade Commission, Chair Joo is scheduled to depart around the 15th to attend the International Antitrust Law and Policy Conference hosted by the Fordham Competition Law Institute (FCLI) of Fordham University School of Law in the United States.
The globally renowned conference is scheduled to run from the 16th to the 18th (local time), with a meeting of heads of competition authorities from various countries scheduled for the 16th.
This visit to the U.S. was pursued at the request of the International Competition Network (ICN) for attendance at the meeting of competition authority chiefs.
During this schedule, the FTC is pushing for bilateral talks between Chair Joo and the chair of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as well as a deputy assistant attorney general-level official from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
As voices of backlash have recently emerged from U.S. political circles regarding the South Korean government's sanctions on Coupang, attention is focused on whether related conflicts or trade issues will be addressed if the meeting between the two sides takes place.
